On 15 April 2019, a fire engulfed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, leading to the collapse of its spire and the destruction of much of its wooden roof. The fire, believed to have been accidental, possibly due to an electrical short circuit or a discarded cigarette, caused extensive damage but spared many of the cathedral's treasures, including the Crown of Thorns and the rose windows. An international outpouring of support followed, with nearly €850 million raised for restoration. After meticulous reconstruction efforts, the cathedral reopened on 7 December 2024.
